Betta Don’t get a Genpet

Posted by B-Boy in Betta Don'ts

Genpets are disgusting little LIVING creatures that are genetically built to order. The only redeeming trait these horrid things have is that you could brutally beat them without remorse because they are not one of God’s creations.

sick fucking pet

yay thanks mom

If it’s living, betta dont beat it!!!

That’s so strange! I don’t think we’ll ever see these on shelves. It’s too freaky…

I don’t think they are living.

” Styrene Plastic, Co-Poly Plastic, Latex rubber, Polyurethane Foam, Kryolan SFX Make-up, Microchips, Motors, Printed circuits, Steel, Acrylic Plastic, Creatix airbrush paint, Paper, Screen printed acetate, Fimo, Sculpy, Video, 3DS Max4, Photoshop, Paintshop Pro, Adobe Indesign.” - http://www.brandejs.ca/portfolio5/gp01.php

It says something about plastic and rubber. I highly doubt that this thing is real. Besides, they might be “disgusting little LIVING creatures.” But, of course, that’s your opinion. I think it’s just another toy for people to sell and enjoy.

It does seem a bit strange though. I think it’d be interesting to buy one and see what it can do. Of course, I won’t beat it. I’m not some kinda monster, and it’s not like everyone who plans on buying it, also plans to destroy every fiber of it’s being.

Good points, Kathy. I think our new focus is to make sure these things don’t start reproducing because that could have cataclysmic effects on our planet’s ecology.

  4. Kathy said,

But that’s the thing, KB. I don’t think they’re real. It’s just seems like another toy to me. So, if people wanna buy it, I say, let them.

How could anyone even think this is real , it’s just a joke!!!

These are real and are living, they are genitcally egineered from DNA of real living things. The casing of the genpet feeds the GenPet and protien to keep it hibernating until u open in.

    Sick….

Thank you, Bruce, for uncovering the truth. I am curious about the wake-up cycle that will occur once the suspended animation phase has ended. No doubt there will be numerous deaths upon wake up but statistics of this nature are missing from the web site. What does one do with the carcass then? Hopefully with revision B the GenPet packaging will double as a disposal container for the bodies and use some kind of chemical dematerialization bath.

Of coure it may look a little fake, the genetic manufacturing industry is still just beginning.

The point of these is to show the horrors of genetic engineering now before we actually get to the point when these things can be a reality.

Unfortunately, of the people who believed this was real, many wanted to buy one RIGHT NOW.

    Oh brave new world…

Ok Guys, I was curious so I did some research and the whole thing is a hoax designed to get you to think. Check out this website and you will see what I mean.

    http://www.brandejs.ca/index.php

Go to the website and start reading it will explane everything.

Kathy has it right they are not real at all.

  15. KB said,

    from that site:

“While in the store window of Iodine Toronto, the shop owner began sleeping in the store as many nights, people would bang at the windows furiously. Some in protest of the small Bio-genetically engineered creatures trapped in plastic, some wanting to wake them up or buy them.”

It sounds like the false idea this is a hoax was just created to quell the growing outrage coming from the pro-life types and misguided humanists.

This kind of tech is at least a couple of hundred years away. Remember when the sheep Dolly was cloned? World wide news right? How come this is so quiet? Where is the scientific community on this issue? No where… because these things do not exist: except as foam rubber and gears.
The medical implications alone would make these things a miracle cure. We would be able to grow organs for donation, stem cells for nerve damage victims. If they were real. This is the real world, not the jetsons and jurassic park is only in the imagination. Creative marketing and gullibility on the part of the consumer that’s all this is.

i did some reaserch heres what i found out gen-pets were actully art works-in this case plastic and latex sculptures [including circuitry and robotics ]created by 24-year old canadian commercial artist Adam Brandejs the whole point of gen pets is to get the public thinking
of bioengineering and how they might feel about were science might lead us however when gen-pets were exhibited in a toronto strore front they did have a reaaction

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genpet
Look, the guys that actually took the time to look this stuff up are right. As cute as they are, they’re fake. This was an exhibit to get the public thinking about the retail industry in relation to how we treat pets. Imagine these genpets as a real thing. They’re kept dormant, packaged, and sold in stores like toys. That’s basically what we do to pets. Cats and dogs are beaten by owners, why are people freaking out about the idea of these things being beaten as well? What makes these fake “pets” any different than the pets that are already real? This exhibit obviously raises questions about genetic engineering and how it will be used in the future, but it was moreso intended to evoke ideas about capitalism and the bottom-line…PROFIT. Greed and money mean more now to people than creating life and deciding when it will end, how the being will act, and whatever other effects genetic engineering could induce. Even from the comments above, you can tell that people are willing to buy ANYTHING. The idea behind the project is to make people think about why we are so willing to spend money on something, even if we don’t agree with it or are even afraid of it.

Mark, dont be gullable. You might as well go to your local toystore and cut open a mechanical animal because thats all you’ll find in this Gen-pet thing. ITS A HOAX!!!
The Gen-pet site really needs to add a disclaimer before they get into some real legal trouble.

I believe this is kind of wrong, but technology will continue to improve and the day something like this happens, i hope the world is ready for the consequences >_>;

It’s brilliant, hilarious — and somewhat scary. Artist Adam Brandejs has constructed the perfect biotech company website look-alike, complete with product catalogue, service & support pages, etc.

The company’s major product is the Genpet, a “pre-packaged, bioengineered pet”, not a toy or a robot, but a “living, breathing” genetically engineered animal with “fully functional heart rate monitor and Fresh Strip to better gauge the state of each pet while it lies in its hibernation state”. It has in-built feelings, of course.

The FAQs-page tells prospective customers that the little creatures breathe and shit and form strong personal bonds with their care-taker. They surely feel pain, but “have limited vocal chords so they will not create a large amount of noise when disturbed”. A Genpet will normally not bite, but if it does, one can buy a extra Tooth Remover Kit.

Adam Brandejs Genpet raises lots of disturbing questions about the future of biotechnology. It’s one of the most humorous and intelligent artistic comments to postgenomics I’ve seen for a long time — neither naïvely endorsing biotech development, nor against its future possibilites.

By the way, Genpets come in two basic versions, one with a one-year life span, the other with a three-year life span (with different price tags, of course) – an oblique commentary to the Nexus 6 generation of replicants in Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner (who had a four-year life span).

This is the truth about these so called “Genpets” READ IT ALL and maybe this will answer ur questions

Why should they lie to millions of children? I live in Iran. They told a lot of children in Iran they were real and were coming to stores.
BTW it’s not possible. They live and kinda have feelings but inside they’re like robots. (Metal and feelings don’t match!)

ok. i accidentally came across these damned things. At first, I was horrified. Then, I was amazed. The more I read, the more I wanted one. Then, as I’m about to pull out my credit card, I realize 1. this site is poorly poorly made and had it been a real bioengineering co. that had founded it, it would have been done correctly and 2. there are about a million sites proving these things openly to be a hoax. Unfortunately, I don’t think they’re real, but I truly would want one.. One other thing that makes me believe that it is just a hoax is this: the artist explained at an exhibition of his work that his point of GenPets was merely to get the public thinking about the concept of bioengineering and how they feel about where that science may take us..
